Three Seconds In Sound: A Listening Workshop (2015)

Three Seconds In Sound is a ninety minute group meditation using focused listening and a suite of sound exercises to examine temporal consciousness, or our construct of 'now'.

Cross-cultural studies suggest that humans and mammals experience the present moment as a three-second time frame: many activities and interactions fit within this brief window of continuity.

Yet how much information are we able to experience within this window of the 'present', this sense of ‘now’? What level of detail are we able to perceive?  How might this influence our experience of life from moment to moment, and our sense of the passage of time? Three Seconds in Sound explores these questions through a guided meditation using immersive sound design and mindfulness techniques, with some discussion on the group's experiences.

The workshop was first hosted as part of TIME, STATE Festival 2015's theme.
